Chapter 5 · 5.11
Importing and exporting CSV files
A CSV file is a simple text file containing data, separated by a comma or semicolon. You might get one as an export from your accounting software, online shop or bank.
Opening a CSV file
The easiest way: put the CSV file in your Nextcloud and click on it. Euro-Office will ask how the data is separated (comma, semicolon, tab) and which character set the file uses. Choose UTF-8 if letters such as é and ë aren't displayed correctly.
Putting CSV data into an existing spreadsheet
- Click the cell where the data should start.
- On the Data tab, click Get Data (1).
- Choose From Local TXT/CSV for a file on your computer, or From TXT/CSV Web Address.
- Choose the separator and check the preview. Click OK.

Splitting text into columns
Is all your data in one column, for example "Jansen;Utrecht;12,50"? Select the column and click Text to Columns on the Data tab. Choose the separator and the data will be neatly split into separate columns.
Saving as CSV
Click File, then Download as and choose CSV. A CSV file only keeps the values of the current worksheet: no formatting, no formulas and no other worksheets. So always save your work as xlsx as well.

Note: do leading zeros disappear (postcode 0123 becomes 123) or are long numbers such as an IBAN displayed oddly? First give the column the Text format and import again. See also De nul aan het begin van een telefoonnummer of postcode houden and Csv met puntkomma's en rare tekens goed openen.
