Chapter 8 · 8.2
The Nextcloud app on iPhone or iPad
With the Nextcloud app on your iPhone or iPad, all your files are always to hand. You can automatically upload photos, share files and scan documents.
Installing
- Open the App store and search for Nextcloud, or tap this link on your phone: Nextcloud in the App store.
- Tap Download (or the cloud icon if you've had the app before).
Logging in
- Open the app and tap Log in.
- Under Server address https://, enter the address of your WebOké Nextcloud, for example https://demo.webokecloud.nl. Use the address as you see it in the browser, without /apps/files after it.
- The login screen of your WebOké Nextcloud opens in the app: Connect to your account (1). Tap Login (2).
- Enter your username and password, then the login code from your email or your authenticator app.
- You'll see Account access. Tap Grant access (3). The app opens with your files.

This gives the app its own app password. Afterwards, you'll find your iPhone listed in your Nextcloud under Settings, Security, Devices & sessions. If you lose your phone, revoke its access there (see Viewing, revoking, or remotely wiping devices and sessions).
Tip: having trouble logging in to the app, for example because you can't paste the login code into the app? Then log in with a QR code instead. On your computer, create an app password in your Nextcloud (Settings, Security, Devices & sessions, name it, for example, iPhone, Create new app password) and choose Show QR code for mobile apps. In the app, tap the QR icon on the login screen and scan the code. See App passwords: when and how to use them.
The app in short
At the bottom, you'll find these tabs:
| Tab | What you'll find there |
|---|---|
| Files | All your folders and files. Tap a file to view it; tap the three dots next to it to share, download, move and more. |
| Favourites | Files and folders you've marked with a star, also in the browser. |
| + (in the middle) | Add something: upload photos or videos, upload a file, create a folder, scan a document or create a new document. |
| Media | All your photos and videos as a timeline. |
| More | Including recent files, shared files, offline files, deleted files and the app's Settings, with Auto upload photos (Automatically uploading photos). |
Your Nextcloud in the Files app on iPhone
The Nextcloud app also adds your Nextcloud to the iOS Files app. There, open Browse and look under Places. If Nextcloud isn't listed, tap the three dots at the top right, choose Edit and switch Nextcloud on. This lets you open and save files directly in your Nextcloud from other apps (Pages, Mail, your photo editor).
Multiple accounts
Do you have more than one Nextcloud, for example one from work and one from your club or association? Tap More, then tap your name or profile picture, and choose Add account.
Please note: some buttons in the app are (still) in English, even if your iPhone is set to your own language. The layout stays the same.
Opening and editing documents in the app: see Euro-Office in the Nextcloud app on your phone or tablet in the Euro-Office manual.
